A Step Forward?

Both the NHL and NHLPA have been having extensive meetings. One on Saturday and Tuesday with more scheduled to come. They have been keeping things quiet as to what is going on in the meetings, but things look promising. They aren't letting the media in or giving out much information. It looks like a step in the right direction and hopefully they don't take any steps back. Daly and Fehr have had long talks concerning the main revenue issue between the two sides. Hopefully they will have a deal done during Thanksgiving week. We will have to wait and hope that the talks keep progressing. On a side note both Sid and Adams attending the Tuesday meeting, which was a last minute decision for them. Could be a good sign that an agreement could be close? We should know soon enough.

Winter Classic has been cancelled!

The NHL has announced the cancellation of the 2013 Bridgestone Winter Classic and the SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival, which was to be held in Detroit, Michigan. The Red Wings were to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is due to the NHL and NHLPA still nowhere near a CBA agreement. The NHL has said that the next Winter Classic and Hocketytown Winter Festival will be held in Michigan, since this one was cancelled.

Well, the news just keeps getting worse. The All-Star game looks to be next at this rate.

Maybe a glimmer of hope!

I don't want to get anyone hopes up, but it was reported by TSN's Darren Dreger that both Steve Fehr and the NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly "talked extensively" on the phone Tuesday. Another reported that they had "light negotiations."

NHL is still set to announce the cancellation of the Winter Classic today or tomorrow, but this could be held off by a possible step forward in the CBA talks.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, but at this point I will take any possible good news.
